Groton's New Municipal Pool

The City of Groton is in the process of raising money for a new swimming pool.

Construction of the original pool was done in 1965. It was built for $47,000 with a 30 year life expectancy (1965 to 1995). The original pool was closed August 2007 after 43 years of operation. It lost over 5,000 gallons per day of water and there was concrete failure within the pool. It was demolished in November 2007.

New Pool Budget
Now, work is underway to raise money for a new pool. Here is the breakdown of the expenditures:

Fence $20,000
Architectural & Engineering Fees $80,000
Aquatic Design $30,000
Pump pit, backwash pit $65,000
TOTAL $1,900,250

New Pool Features
The new pool will have 5,013 square feet with a zero depth entrance and a 10 feet diving area. Features include:
• Bath house (includes family changing room)
• Zero-depth entry with floor bubbles, slide, rain drops
• Diving board and drop slide at deep end
• 130 foot waterslide
• 40 year life expectancy
